We Can Do This!

So here I am again talking about an energy company going green. Theres so many issues and ethics to consider here it makes you want to be sick. An energy company going green? I know….I know, but todays post is a little different. Here we have an energy company going green, and they are largely based in California. With that being said, it may be possible to consider them actually going green due to strict regulations in California and well just being in the “green” state of California. The company is PG&E, and their amazing slogan is “We Can Do This”!
Now not only do I find that to be an amazing marketing slogan, they are actually including green efforts into advertising, see TreeHugger article here. So what exactly is PG&E doing to help the environment? Well, let me lay some of it out there for ya:

  • they’ve partnered to help build a solar park in the Mojave Desert which will make them one of the largest solar power providers on Earth. When this park is finished, it will cover over 9 square miles of the desert. And that’s just the beginning. By 2010, their goal is to have more than 60% of energy generated by carbon-free sources, which is why they’re trying to find more solar power projects in the region.
  • Recently, they allowed one of their customers to go from 196 servers to 7. That’s a 96% reduction, which will save enough energy to power up to 50 homes for an entire year.
  • They’re committed to having 60% of energy generated by carbon-free sources by 2010.
  • Working with California dairy farmers, they are converting methane into natural, renewable energy

So theres a few facts of what they have done, or are in the process of doing, and there is much more at their site that you can visit here. Whats striking me differently with PG&E is that they are getting the message across very effectively. They know and admit to contributing to global warming, and know that they are not the solution. However, they show that there is things that they as a company and us as individuals can do to solve the problem, creating the amazing slogan of “We Can Do This”! Clearly PG&E has their hands in allot of emission producing ventures, but lets hope they are serious about making the switch quickly and as environmentally sustainable as possible.

Keep it Green,

Paul

I recently started developing my own solar panels – I utilized some video guides I found and it’s working out good!
