Are CFL’s Days Numbered?
Its an obvious statement but I’m going to say it anyways, technology really is amazing. When you reflect about how far some daily aspects of our lives have come, it astounds me! This hit me when I came across the news that, yet again, lightbulbs have taken another efficient step forwards. At the moment it isn’t financially practical for companies to implement this development, but nothing is when it is first discovered.
LED lights are not news to many people by any means. There are extremely efficient and have less down sides than CFL’s. Researchers at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, discovered that by coating blue LEDs with a layer of nanocrystals specially engineered to turn the blue light into warm white, they could produce light at efficiency of over 300 lumens of visible light per watt. Very interesting! Clearly this is not going to be on the shelves over night, but when you reflect upon how far lights bulbs have come in the last couple of years, its seems just like incandescent bulbs, CFL’s days are numbered.
