This truly was a touching and alarming documentary. Not only did the documentary act as a follow up to New Orleans 5 years after Katrina, but it touched on the latest disaster to hit the area, the BP oil “spill” (for lack of better and more appropriate but explicit words).  The hardships the city and state have gone through are unimaginable. However, it also brought up a great point that is not getting enough attention. If this oil is not cleaned up and cleaned up fast, what will happen when hurricane season comes? The left over oil will be whipped into the air and spread all over the region, deeper into ecological systems. Watch this documentary and I will see what else I can digg up on this possible scenario.

Jon Stewart (to me) seems like an easy guy to like becasue he’s hilarious! Some right wing people may not agree with me, so if you are one of those people today’s post may no interest you.

Now not only is Jon Stewart a comic genius, but he is very well educated and knowledgable on today’s politics and current events. I guess it kinda comes with the job, but  if you haven’t seen it I urge you to look up Jon Stewart on Crossfire. Anyways, Jon Stewart has just released a new book entiled “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Presents Earth (The Book): A Visitor’s Guide to the Human Race”.

The book focuses on the end of our civilization as we know it and offers an in-depth, posthumous summary of what the human race looked like along with details on what we achieved in science, government, religion, culture and society.

There is no doubt this is an easy but enjoyable read. Any pick it up already?

Now I’m no Gordon Gekko believe me, but I had been waiting years for Tesla’s IPO and today I find out I missed it! By almost two full months! Tesla marked the first electic vehicle car to be openly traded on Wall Street and it seems that another company is getting ready to be the second.

GM is rumoured to be filing its prospectus with financial regulators and gear-ing up for a fall IPO (right before the Chevy Volt goes on sale). So will I be buying stock in this IPO, probably not being that its GM. However, it will be interesting to see what this will do for the company and it’s image. So here I am talking about the same guy (and kinda the same subject) again, but everything this guy does is for creating positive change for the people of this world and the environment we belong too. Beween this, this and this, I really didn’t know what else he could do. And then…..

Johnson’s charity the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation has pledged up to $70,000—$30,000 from direct donations and $40,000 in matching grants—to the All At Once non-profit partners working on Gulf relief efforts. And he goes one stpe further again. Just like his 2008 tour, Jack Johnson will donate 100% of his profits from 2010’s To The Sea Tour to charity.

I swear this is the last time I’m going to talk about this guy…….mabey.

Regardless of whether you’ve heard of Volcom or not they are in the midsts of a great recycling campaign. Dubbed “Give Jeans A Chance”, Volcom retailers will host a denim recycling bin in the store for participants to bring worn or used jeans in wearable condition. If you do, you’ll receive a special hat, sticker, or button, compliments of the Give Jeans a Chance campaign, and you’ll also be entered to win a year’s supply of Volcom Brand Jeans. Not a bad deal right?

So what is one to do when they want to support a cause or charity via web 2.0 or just learn more about in an online community? Well I will respond to that question with another question, what does one do if he or she is looking for the above question and has even thought of starting their own cause or charity? The answer to both questions is Crowdrise. “Whether you’re running a marathon, volunteering, or have causes that you care deeply about, create your own Fundraising Pages on Crowdrise and choose from over a million charities to raise money for”. Besides the backing of eco-hero Edward Norton, Crowdrise is a genuine solution to getting more involved in the issues of today.

I’m not sure what I am going to use this for, but I will find something I think its a great idea. Even Will Ferrel has got in on it! So I encourage to atleast check it out, try and find a cause, or pass on the idea.

It has been 3 weeks since BP made their generous donation of oil to the sea (insert sarcasim) with its explosion at the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil rig. Unfortunately this issue has gone way of the dinosaur, buffalo, and the recent volcanic explosion in Iceland and become a minor footnote in the daily news at major agencies.

It has now come to my attention Roy “Tin Cup” McAvoy aka Kevin Costner is taking it upon himself to clean up BP’s mess and hopefully return the spot light to this serious issue. Supposedly, Costner and his scientist brother Dan, will be in the region to demonstrate a device designed to separate oil and water. Records from the EPA indicate the Costner brothers have promoted an oil-water filtration system in the past through their company Costner Industries Nevada Corporation.

Now sure mabey I’m making the issue seem a little more light-hearted with my subtle Tin Cup jokes, but make no mistake people, this problem is far from solved and requires much more attention. If not properly cleaned and resolved, the ramifications of this issue could be severe for future generations. Hopefully there will be more information on this news as the days progress.
